it's friday, i dig it

O my lanta. On a scale from 1-10, this week has been a negative five, yes that's not good in case you were wondering. I got hit with some unexpected senioritis+then some and then other mishaps started to occur...my bike got all wonky and un-ride-able just when I ran out of food, I went to see a craazy doctor who told me running was bad for me (that's not all she said either), I forgot where my teacher's office was and missed our conferencing appointment, and I didn't quite get the schedule I wanted for fall, meaning I will not be done with classes until 4 or 5 o'clock at night....BLURGH. So friends, that is why I have been behind on this blog, because I just haven't felt like saying anything, for fear that it would all come gushing out like a dormant volcano. And it was a volcano, trust me. Mt. St. Helens all over again.

But now it's Friday. Time for a "things I am currently digging" list. And a preview of that post about that writer's retreat which you're gonna wanna read....trust me.

1. Whole Foods Market. I like to read other people's blogs who live near these fine establishments so I can vicariously shop there...without spending any money or eating any of the deliciousness. What I wouldn't do for a natural food store in Rexburg!

2. This bike...oh man. I don't even know how long I've had the bike I do now..it's been awhile. And since I am also car-less, I figure, why not just save my moolah for a sweet bike? Yeah, "sweet" means expensive. Maybe it will be my graduation present to myself.

3. These shoes. Can they please be on my feet now?

4. Cool braids. I'm gonna learn how to do this, mark my words. via

5. letters from Sis. Bedke

6. this blog

7. packages from amazon...we're going on three this week already (and three more to come...heehee)

8. sleeping in...someday maybe...in 6 weeks.

9. for some reason I really miss the 60's. even though I never lived then. Look at these pictures, you'll see what I mean. Maybe I just miss the music.

10. oh and this song......good times

this week was such a midterm, rain-in-the-middle-of-june, homesick with 6 weeks left, kind of week. Good thing it's over.

"I actually have a crimson unicorn that I sleep with at home..."
yeah that's a direct quote from one of these people.

be still and know...

today I am happy.

the sun came out and started to melt all of the snow and ice
which has been making me slightly more klutzy
(if that's even possible)

I got 100% on a test
my Spanish speaking skills improved according to my teacher
and dang, this piece of gum is just really minty.

that last sentence was dripping with optimism.

I can't help it.
There's only 6 days left of school.
I'm not afraid of what's ahead anymore.
I know exactly what I'm supposed to be doing, and it just so happens that it's what God wants me to do. So that's why I can have confidence and not be afraid.

You know what the best feeling is?
Not being afraid of anything.
Because instead of worrying myself to sleep every night,
I just think about my future.

And it makes me smile.

p.s. can you believe I wrote this in the library? guess it's not so doom-y and gloomy after all. I know, I know. doom-y isn't a word.
too bad.

Doctrine and Covenants 101:16

Therefore, let your hearts be comforted concerning Zion; for all flesh is in mine hands; be still and know that I am God.

into the deep end we go

Before drifting off into nap-world today after stake conference, I read a poem about onions. It made me want to start my "poem-a-day" thing again. I liked that thing I did, once upon a time in high school.

This past week I've felt like I was racing against an avalanche...and guess what? I outran it. All because of a wonderful thing called the weekend, and in particular, the Sunday part of the weekend.

But I know that the difficulties aren't going to end now that I've been refreshed, now that I've renewed my covenants, Now that I've looked back on mistakes I've made in the past week and resolved not to make them again, because of the time I lost, because of the Thursday I had (remember that post? I'm sorry about that post. Still.). Nope, the test isn't over until that trumpet starts playing some tunes, and even then, I know that the learning by trial and error will still continue.

That brings comfort to my heart. Because I know I'm not perfect or anywhere close to it right now, but I also know that I can become perfect through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I know that everybody has that chance! Isn't that a miracle? Yeah, it is.

So onto the next week, the next challenge, the next tumble onto the hard pavement (metaphorically speaking...at least, I hope so), and the next goal to overcome.

"Faith as the assurance of things hoped for looks to the future. This assurance is founded upon a correct understanding about, and trust in, God and enables us to 'press forward' (2 Nephi 31:20) into uncertain and often challenging situations in the service of the Savior." -David A. Bednar

happy list monday

i hereby start a new tradition....and i shall call it "happy list monday" and it shall be mine. (also, did you notice i am not capitalizing my "i's" like normal?! this is about as much rebellion as I can muster.)

  1. the smell of pumpkin bread in october (it has to be october, ok?)
  2. blowing bubbles with gum while simultaneously riding bike uphill to class
  3. sitting under a tree to study and having leaves fall onto your books
  4. the smell of the taylor building (it smells like Temple Square, HONEST)
  5. getting up at 5:30 (!!!) just to read scriptures...I think maybe I could become a morning person after all.
  6. putting on that edible lip gloss just so you can eat it (what? I get hungry)
  7. ripping the "frazz" off of notebook paper and rolling it up into little balls
  8. sneezing a bunch of times on the 2nd floor of the library (it's the quiet zone, so people glare at you more for breathing loudly. it's fun.)
  9. homemade guacamole, need I say más?
  10. becoming friends with siblings of people you met freshman year who are now on missions. co-inky-dinks galore!
  11. talking to mom on the phone
  12. finding out that my roommate also applied to go to Mexico and also got accepted to Puebla. like WHOA!
  13. sitting in the art gallery, just for kicks.
  14. having people not-so-subtly try to read this over my shoulder and imagining what they would write on their happy list
mondays really get too much flack. and guess what?

I don't even know what that phrase means.

anyway, make a happy list and the
badical-ness of Monday will soon fade away.
