Whatever Happened to October?

I really dig this picture, mostly because it looks like October. Now, I know you're thinking, "How can you know what a month looks like?" Welp, to me, every month has a different face. October's looks like this:
  • Hot stuff (hahahaha--okay stop now, that's enough knee-slapping). And by hot stuff I mean hot cocoa, hot cider, hot soup, hot chili, hot cookies, hot fireplaces, hot clothes straight from the dryer
  • Orange--for some reason it just looks really good in this month. Orange leaves, orange pumpkins/gourds/squash, orange sunsets (they look different in the fall, you know), orange sweaters
  • Melancholy-ness--you know why? Because October is the jumping-off point, when we leave behind summer once and for all and we go headfirst right into the holidays. Why must the radio stations start playing Christmas music the day after Halloween?
I wrote this post because I feel like I missed October. I think it snuck into my room one night, breathed fog onto the windows, lent me a scarf, and then left. I didn't even know it was here, and now, BAM! It's gone. Almost. But the day after Halloween, it's November all of a sudden, and I can't keep up. Don't you guys feel this way too? In honor of the last week of October 2009, I am going to do something autumn-y every day. Whether it be to step on a crunchy leaf, guzzle some cider, thrust my hands into a goopy pumpkin-y mess (actually, I already did that one...), or just sit by the stove and warm my hands, I've got seven days left. How are you going to say goodbye to October?

I'll just count each of the days as one step closer to having you come home safe...

I'm going to make some Halloween stew, dress up the kiddies, take their photo, and decide what would taste good for Thanksgiving!

I love that oictur and I love fall. October for me is like the end of a busy day as you sit down and take off your shoes and lean back in an easy chair. The harvest is done , relish the accomplishments and relax in the abundance. Time for pumpkin bread BYU football and trimming back my gardens. LOve it! 7 days till cute kids candy and carmel apples

I love this blog - I loved it when you said it snuck into your room and lent you a scarf! So poetic you are! I'm going to sew my bum off (I hope anyway)the bum part! Go trick-or-treating with my cutie kiddos. Take my last shot on Wednesday and welcome eggs back into my life - OH and maybe cheese! Can I !!! OH say I can

Well said Kenz. There really is a distinct difference between October 31 and November 1. I feel it every year. Unfortunately, you will begin to find that the saying really is true: "The older you get the faster it goes". Soon, nothing will sneak up on you anymore because instead, it will all run together.

I absolutley love the colors. Fall is by far one of my favorite looks. spring at temple square another. I love the tulips then you have the earth covered in sparkling white snow. summers beautiful flowers and green grass. Something about fall though it just doesn't last long enough. Kenz you are an amazing girl how lucky that boy is going to be when he finds you.

I love Fall because it always slows me down. So many things can no lnger be done or need to be done once the weather changes. I love the way it smells: Smokey air from the fireplace, compost, fall-like. I cannot say what I will do celebrate because it has now past. Perhaps in honor of the October that was.I will slow down enough to notice as much as my insightful daughter.
